Get Prepared

Follow these steps to ensure your house is ready for a home inspection:

  • Ensure all utilities are hooked up.
  • Trim back bushes and remove items from exterior walls and vents.
  • Where possible, please move storage away from the walls of the house, garage and outbuildings.
  • Keep electrical outlets accessible and replace burned-out light bulbs.
  • In kitchens and bathrooms, tidy up under sinks for plumbing inspection.
  • Ensure all pilot lights are lit.
  • Ensure wood burning appliances are not in use and have cooled.
  • Please ensure the inspector has access to the mechanical systems in the home, including: furnace, water heater, gas meter, electrical panel(s), water meter and valves.
  • Make the attic hatch accessible. Please remove items for proper access if the hatch is in the closet..
  • Please make arrangements for pets during the inspection, or notify the inspector prior to the inspection.
